With the announcement last week that enslaved teenager Kate Moss is being posthumously awarded the Order of National Hero, #MorningBlend on Guardian Radio 96.9FM talks with Dr Ian Strachan about his book “Blind Days”, a fictionalized account of Kate’s life on the Moss Plantation on Crooked Island.

Kate died in 1826 after being confined to the stocks, beaten and tortured for 17 days by her slave masters Henry and Helen Moss.

The Mosses went on trial, and Kate’s story made it all the way to the UK, strengthening the calls to abolish slavery.
